Case studies

The following case studies provide a snapshot of CAPDM's work and the contribution that we can make to the success of learning programmes.

These case studies represent some of the most significant programmes that we have been involved with. However, as described elsewhere, clients can use our services to help them with just part of an overall programme development

Edinburgh Business School

The recent FT.COM e-Learning 2010 survey shows that the EBS e-MBA is the world's most international distance learning MBA programme and the second largest. CAPDM helped EBS achieve this success, by producing and managing the materials that deliver the 4,400 study hours comprising this multilingual distance learning programme. This requires us to provide more than 900 different deliverables for 45 released courses - subsets of which are maintained in Spanish, Chinese and Arabic. The resulting content repository contains more than 20 million words and 5,700 illustrations, and we have logged every amendment ever made to them since 1997. Please visit the Course Websites demonstration

ifs School of Finance

In 2005, CAPDM helped the School to launch a profitable new diploma in financial services management, and to host and deliver it as an optimised online learning environment, alongside the primary printed course pack delivered from the same content masters. Other products subsequently developed and supported for ifs have included an online tutoring and assessment environment used in 300+ UK schools, and a range of publishing solutions for their market-leading financial education programmes.

Heriot-Watt University

Worked with, and co-ordinated the input of, more than 50 academic authors, CAPDM were instrumental in the initiation, management and development of the successful, global, 3-year undergraduate Management Programme. This was the development of a full, three year programme of study through one of five different pathways leading to the award of a BA. The materials were comprised of some 48 core text modules representing approximately 4,800 hours of study. As part of the original team, CAPDM worked with Heriot-Watt on a partnership basis on this Management Programme project.

These examples of success have relied upon informed executive management, effective programme design, professional programme fulfilment, and explicit routes to market. For many of the owning organisations, they have been transformational initiatives that have created ‘knowledge based institutions’ that use knowledge management practices to create tangible assets. Such assets help an institution to invest in the continuous improvement of the underlying quality of all programmes derived from them, whether on or off-campus.
